Russian President Vladimir Putin named St. Petersburg University of the State Fire Service after the deceased head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, Hero of Russia Yevgeny Zinichev. The decree is posted on the official Internet portal of legal information.
According to the document, the head of state made the corresponding resolution in order to perpetuate the memory of the deceased head of the Ministry of Emergency Situations, “taking into account the merits of the Hero of the Russian Federation E.N. Zinichev before the Fatherland, his contribution to the implementation of state policy in the field of civil defense, protection of the population and territories from emergencies, ensuring fire safety.
Evgeny Zinichev has headed the Ministry of Emergency Situations since May 2018. He died on September 8, 2021 during exercises in Norilsk. The ministry said that Zinichev was trying to save film director Alexander Melnik, who had slipped on the edge of a cliff, and was looking for a place to film a documentary. As a result, both died.
Putin posthumously awarded Zinichev the title of Hero of Russia “for heroism, courage and bravery shown in the line of duty.” He was buried at the Northern Cemetery in St. Petersburg.
“For me, this is an irreparable personal loss. We were connected by many years of joint work»,— said the head of state.
In December 2021, Posolskaya Street was renamed in Kaliningrad in honor of Zinichev. On December 4, 2021, the first monument to Zinichev was opened in Elista. It was installed in the Park of Rescuers in front of the building of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in Kalmykia.
The Russian Military Historical Society (RVIO) also proposed to erect a monument to Zinichev in Dmitry Mikhailik Square (Kremenchugskaya Street) in the Fili-Davydkovo district in Moscow. For these purposes, the RVIO will allocate 20 million rubles. The deputies of the Moscow City Duma supported this proposal in mid-December last year.
At the end of December of the same year, the head of the Chechen Republic, Ramzan Kadyrov, announced that a street named after Zinichev appeared in Grozny. He said that he took part in the opening ceremony of the street and the stele.
