Superyacht “Amadea”

The Supreme Court of Fiji has allowed the confiscation of the Amadea superyacht under a US warrant, reports FijiVillage, but this decision has not yet been registered.

Millemarin Investment Limited claims to be the real owner of the superyacht, represented by its defense lawyer Faisal Haniff asked the court to stay the decision pending an appeal against that decision.

There is good reason to believe, the lawyer said, that the FBI, US Coast Guard and other agencies have already arrived in Fiji to take her away. According to FBC, Haniff expressed concern that the superyacht could be towed in the evening, while he plans to file an appeal the next day, May 4.

At the request of Judge Justice Deepti Amaratunga, a spokesman for the Fiji Prosecutor's Office commented on Haniff's concerns, assuring that Amadea would not be moved anywhere on May 3rd. The judge emphasized that he would register his decision on May 4, which would give the lawyer time to apply for a stay of the decision.

The Yacht publication in April was associated with Suleiman Karimov, who has been under US sanctions since 2018. In mid-March, Washington added the senator to the list of persons for whom sanctions control will be carried out as a priority. In addition, restrictive measures against Kerimov were also introduced in the European Union, they imply an asset freeze and a ban on entry.

The Amadea crew was left on board pending the completion of the investigation. Later, the superyacht was banned from leaving territorial waters.

In late April, the Fiji prosecutor's office asked to close the lawsuit, obliging journalists and anyone present at the meetings not to publish confidential information about the yacht.
