In Ukraine, from October 1, women of a number of professions must be registered for military service, Ukrainian women liable for military service, like men, will not be able to leave the country during martial law, Defense Ministry lawyer Volodymyr Smilka explained to Suspilne.media.
“Since we are approaching NATO standards, we are moving towards them not only in terms of weapons, but also in terms of military records. This account is the same for both women and men. They collect the necessary documents and apply to the head of their enterprise, they are sent to the territorial acquisition centers, — he explained.
Women will not be fined for evasion until the end of the year, Smilka said.
In December last year, an order of the Ministry of Defense came into force in Ukraine, according to which Ukrainian women representing 35 professions (for example, chief accountant, manager, lawyer, etc.) are required to register with the military. The Main Intelligence Directorate of the Ministry of Defense reported that pregnant women and those who have young children are subject to registration. Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine Valery Zaluzhny noted that military registration does not mean conscription or mobilization. “With military registration, there will be no changes in the lives of Ukrainian women! The only thing is that the armed forces will simply know what specialists are in the country and, as a last resort, can join the defense of the state, — Zaluzhny said.
In January of this year, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky demanded that Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov reduce the list of professions for women liable for military service.
Now the list includes 14 specialties and seven related professions (medicine, marketing, engineering, food technology, journalism, etc.), RBC Ukraine reports. Initially, it was assumed that for women whose professions were included in the list, registration would be mandatory. However, back in mid-July, the General Staff reported that for the time being this would be voluntary, and at the end of August, the Ministry of Defense submitted the appropriate amendments to the Verkhovna Rada, UNIAN reports.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the start of a military operation in Ukraine, calling it the goals of “protecting people who have been subjected to abuse, genocide by the Kyiv regime for eight years,” and ” demilitarization and denazification” neighboring country.
Zelensky introduced martial law in the country and announced mobilization. Since then, martial law, which provides for restrictions on entry and exit, has been repeatedly extended, most recently— at the end of May. Then it was extended immediately for three months— until 23 August. In mid-August, the Ukrainian leader submitted to the Rada a bill on the next extension of martial law in the country.
In early July, Zelensky demanded that the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine lift restrictions on the departure of those liable for military service without the consent of the military registration and enlistment office, which was later done.Authors Tags Subscribe to RuTube RBC Live broadcasts, videos and recordings of programs on our RuTube channel
