The work to discredit elections in Russia is financed mainly from the United States, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Ukraine, the monthly costs for such activities amount to at least $30 million, the chairman of the State Duma commission to investigate the facts of interference of foreign states in internal affairs said during a speech at the CEC. “Activities to discredit our elections, including the promotion of candidates beneficial to the West, are coordinated and financed mainly by five control centers from the USA, Great Britain, Germany, Sweden and Ukraine,” — he said.
According to the deputy, there are about 100 media projects under the control of the above countries, which “in addition to interfering in the elections, work out tasks for the production of fakes about the activities of our armed forces in the implementation of the military defense (special operations in Ukraine.— RBC)and in general about our country».
The commission, in particular, revealed attempts to “media support” Western non-governmental organizations (NGOs) of some candidates in the elections of municipal deputies in Moscow, Piskarev said. In addition, according to him, the commission recorded cases of distribution by foreign agents of instructions for damaging ballots and organizing provocations, as well as calls for cyberattacks on the electronic voting system.
Elections at different levels are held in Russia from 9 to 11 September. Citizens elect governors, members of regional and city parliaments, and deputies of local legislatures.
