In the Kremlin, after Zelensky's words, they warned about “a proper response to any claims to Crimea” Russia will respond to any claims to Crimea, Peskov said. Crimea is an integral part of Russia, any claims against it will receive a proper response, presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters, TASS reports.
Thus, the Kremlin reacted to the words of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky. The day before, he named the cities of Mariupol, Kherson, Melitopol, as well as Donetsk, Luhansk, Gorlovka, located in the DPR and LPR, and the Crimean Yalta, Evpatoria and Dzhankoy among the targets of the Ukrainian army.
Crimea became part of Russia following a referendum in 2014. Ukraine considers the peninsula occupied. Western countries, including the United States and the European Union, reacted to the transition of Crimea to the Russian borders with sanctions. The Russian authorities, in turn, have repeatedly stressed that the issue of ownership of the peninsula is closed, since “the people of Crimea made a decision and voted.”
Russia has been conducting a military special operation in Ukraine since February 24. Since the end of August, the Russian Ministry of Defense has repeatedly reported on attempts by the Ukrainian forces to attack, emphasizing that all these attempts ended unsuccessfully.
On September 10, the military department announced the curtailment and transfer of the Izyum-Balakleya group of troops to the territory of the DPR. President Vladimir Putin, commenting on what is happening, noted that “in essence, there are no changes.” According to him, despite attempts by the Ukrainian army to counteroffensive, Russian forces continue their offensive operation in Donbas itself. “Something the General Staff considers important, something” secondary, but the main task remains unchanged, and it is being implemented,»— the president said.
